Artist Prompt
1. My name is Marty Englert, I'm grew up in a small farm town called Houston, Mississippi. I Now live in Memphis, Tennesse.
2. I am an animator I work mostly on 2d computer animations. I do enjoy sculpture and metalsmithing. After hours of computer work, working on something physical with my hands is very therapeutic.
3. I normally start with brainstorming on a character or on an idea that I want to create. Then I put the character or idea on paper. That character is then put into certain situations and problems he or she must face. Then I write the script of what will happen in the story. That is then put down on paper called a story board. After this I move to working on the computer. I make a rough animatic to get the timing and shots framed. Then I work on back grounds and work my way to animating afterwards.
4. I spent the past 4 years at memphis college of art working on my BFA in animation. I spent most of my life enjoying cartoons and movies. I later started writing stories of my own.
5. omit
6. Most of my work is science fiction, a blend between the past and future. Most types of my animations are comedies. A character who must overcome obstacles which turn into larger comical events.
7. I'm currently working on Time Quest, a sci-fi comedy, a soldier is sent back to medieval times. He meets a knight who asks him to come on his quest.
8. Overtime the visual quality and animation have improved. I strive to make each work better than the last.
9. Besides school, I haven't had any real work experience in this filled.
10. I don't necessarily have a favorite artist/ directer/ animator. There are a two who stick out in my mind. For animation Hayao Miyazaki from Studio Ghibli, and Nicolas Winding Refn who is the director of Drive and Vahalla Rising.
11. I would like to work at Pixar, that would be one dream studio I'd like to work at and to work under John Lasseter.
12. My favorite artwork/ movie would have to be the movie Looper. I enjoyed the story and all of the connections and theories it has with time travel.
13. I am inspired by well shot movies with great and interesting stories and cartoons that are comical with detailed backgrounds and fluid animations.
